Welcome to the historic Pumphouse on Lake Superior with 200' of lakeshore! The Pumphouse is one of Duluth's iconic and historical properties. This home was originally designed by John Wangenstein in 1860 as the water pump house for the City of Duluth but was abandoned when the new pump house was built in 1897. Miss Elisabeth Congdon purchased it and hired renowned architect Harold Starin to convert the pump house into an absolutely stunning French-style home. Enormous 8' windows face the courtyard and London Road, while a terrace along the entire length of the home overhangs Lake Superior. French doors frame the large living room and its commanding view of Lake Superior and the Aerial Lift Bridge. This stunning 3,100 square foot French home sits on 200' of lakefront on London Road. The Pumphouse faces southeast for beautiful sunrises and overhangs Lake Superior. The home features large multi-paned French windows, French doors, 10-foot ceilings, a Pullman-style kitchen, period chandeliers, four gas fireplaces, and other unique elements. You can enjoy a fire in our fire pit next to the lake or leisurely escape to the terrace to listen to the many sounds of the lake. There are two flights of stairs going from the parking area to the lakeside Pumphouse (which may be challenging for those with mobility concerns). We are located lakeside on London Road, just a short drive to Duluth's downtown restaurants, entertainment, and Canal Park. PL19-166.

Restful getaway
This was our second visit and was just as relaxing as our first time there. The house is very well appointed. The views of Lake Superior are spectacular and being able to hear the water on the shore all night long makes for excellent sleeping. We've visited Duluth many times and Pumphouse has become our favorite place to stay. We look forward to our next visit.

Perfection
Came for an our annual girls weekend trip and we all fell in love with the PumpHouse-the place looks exactly like the photos, we all loved how we could hear the waves from whatever room we were in. Enjoyed all the fireplaces and the beds were so comfortable and bedding felt luxurious. Communication with the host was super prompt and accommodating - can’t wait to stay again in the future!

In all the years traveling to the north shore we have driven by the Pumphouse and never knew such a wonderful place was right there. Very unique and spectacular place. An Enchanting Winter Getaway
We stayed at Carin's property with our two small children (ages 2 and 5) for a few days in early January to enjoy winter prior to school starting back up. As a young family, we often stay in VRBOs over hotels, as having space and a kitchen are key. We've been very lucky with the rentals we've selected, but this was far and away the most stunning and well-equipped space we have ever stayed in. There was not a hair nor speck of dust to be found--the property was incredibly clean. Everything felt new, which was pure luxury. Lovely linens, clean furnishings, gorgeous decor. We were also shocked by how seamlessly everything worked--fireplaces, TVs, appliances--all top-notch and intuitive. Carin also provided everything we needed and more for our stay--lovely toiletries, games/puzzles, cleaning supplies, etc. The property was also conveniently located to everything. We ventured to the zoo, train museum, downtown, state parks...nothing more than a 20 minute drive. It was also nice to have a grocery less than 2 minutes away by car. Looking out over a cold lake Superior every morning was just the relaxing start to the new year we needed. While we loved our cozy winter stay, we can't wait to come back in the warmer months and take advantage of the deck and fire pit! Thank you, Carin, for a fabulous time in Duluth!

We love to get away right before the holiday, escape the madness. This rental was perfect! Comfortable, clean, welcoming, great location. All the comforts needed for a quick getaway. We had plenty of room to spread out and relax. We enjoyed the scenery and views. You can’t beat watching the shore all day long, especially during shipping season. The Pumphouse is an amazing home for a weekend getaway in Duluth. The design of the house is fantastic. The placement up against the lake is beautiful and you can even hear the waves laying in bed. And to add to all of that, the host was very responsive. Will definitely go back and highly recommend

Perfect Anniversary Retreat
I surprised my husband with a trip to Duluth for our anniversary. He thought we were staying in a hotel, but I knew he wanted to be close to the water and I was lucky enough to find this beautiful home right on Lake Superior. We really enjoyed how peaceful and relaxing the home was and the beautiful views from every window facing the lake. My husband loved the house and location so much that we opted to dine in for breakfast and order take-out for supper just so we could enjoy the quiet peaceful setting and take in the views. I was hesitant to book this property in November next to the lake, but we couldn't have been happier with the home, the location and our trip to Duluth. The home was located out of the busy downtown Duluth area, but still within driving distance of many great local attractions. We took in the lights at Bentleyville and would highly recommend the light tour to anyone young and old. While visiting Duluth, a trip up the north shore scenic drive is a must. If you venture past Two Harbors be sure to stop in at the Rustic Inn Cafe for a piece of pie, they have delicious pies! We knew Gooseberry Falls State Park was beautiful in the summer, but it's just as beautiful when the water is starting to freeze as the temps begin to drop in late November, early December. This is definitely an anniversary trip that we will both remember for years to come and one that will be hard to top.

Perfect holiday stay at the Pump House
A beautiful and well appointed house in a perfect location on Lake Superior. Both sunrise and sunset were picture perfect and access to the lake was easy and mesmerizing. The bathrooms, bedrooms and kitchen had everything we needed for a perfect holiday stay. It was a treat to stay at the Pump House!

We loved the beautiful house and gorgeous views!! Everything was easy for us 70 year olds, except for the TV. We couldn’t get regular network TV. It was frustrating because we wanted to watch the Golden Bachelor….😂😂 But we saw sunrises AND sunsets, an ore boat headed to the harbor, fun waves and calm waters, a friendly kayaker, and much wildlife!! ❤️
