Fort Myers River District featuring outdoor eating as well as a large group of people
Henry Ford and Thomas Edison are among the famous people who socialized in this historic riverside setting full of art and culture.

Packed with trendy galleries and elegant theaters, the Fort Myers River District has become the cultural hub of the city. All types of upscale boutiques and impressive lodgings line this waterside strip, which provides stunning views of the Caloosahatchee River. While visiting the Fort Myers River District walk along the harbor piers and pick out your favorites from the boats moored here.

Wander along palm-tree-lined avenues and stop on the shore to watch the fountains on the river. Relax with a picnic in Centennial Park, which has covered pavilions, a children’s playground and public works of art.

Nearby is the Burroughs Home and Gardens, an estate built in 1901 in Georgian Revival design. Join a guided tour to learn about its famous social events involving the Fords and the Edisons.

Another scenic and serene site is the Butterfly Estates, which has a garden containing a charming café and shop. Take photos of the colorful wings of these intriguing creatures as they fly around you.

Experience a dramatic performance at the Florida Repertory Theatre, which puts on an eclectic array of plays. Concerts, art exhibits and other entertaining shows take place in the nearby Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center.

Bring your family to have fun with the interactive displays at the IMAG History & Science Center. One exhibit puts you 150 years back in time via virtual reality to see the original fort of Fort Myers.

For something a little different, take a boat out on the water with the Edison Sailing Center near the Legacy Harbour Marina.

Find the Fort Myers River District on the southeastern side of a bend in the Caloosahatchee River, at the western edge of Fort Myers. The neighborhood is surrounded by the districts of Villa Francisco, Woodford Park and McGregor Estates Boulevard.
