Travel Guide
Magog showing a house
On the northern shores of Lake Memphremagog is a town famous for its breathtaking scenery, watersports, wine and festivals.

Picturesque and laidback Magog is a paradise for outdoor lovers. Its attractions range from summer and winter sports to vineyards, cultural festivals and scenic trails. Visit French-speaking Magog at the northern end of Lake Memphremagog where it straddles the Magog River, surrounded by mountains and rolling countryside.

At beautiful Lake Memphremagog, enjoy year-round relaxation and recreation. In summer the beaches of Plage de la Baie-de-Magog and Plage des Cantons are ideal for picnics, swimming and sunbathing. Explore the calm glacial water via paddleboat, kayak, fishing boat or cruise boat. Watch for Memphré, a fabled long-necked lake monster. In winter try ice-skating and ice-fishing on the frozen waters.

Magog’s main street, Rue Principale, skirts the lake and the north banks of the Magog River. Here you’ll find art galleries, museums, boutique stores, cafés and restaurants. Investigate the displays of naïve art at the Museé International d’art naïf de Magog. Watch live music performances and attend theater productions at Le Vieux Clocher de Magog.

Find more opportunities for outdoor recreation within walking distance of downtown Magog. Follow hiking trails through wetlands and thick woods at Marais de la Riviere aux Cerises. Navigate the maze at Labyrinthe Magog and stroll through the garden at Jardin du Grand Ben. Alternatively, relax in the thermal spas, baths and saunas of the Nordic Spa Station.

Magog is known for its wine-making heritage too. Take a guided tour of vineyards such as Vignoble le Cep d’Argent. Visit the town in September for the Magog-Orford Grape Harvest Festival, when up to 150 exhibitors offer wine tastings and cooking workshops along with live music and grape-crushing demonstrations. Other town festivals include the summer Circuit des arts Memphremagog, which showcases the work of regional artists.

Magog is less than a 90-minute drive from Montreal. Rent a car or bike and visit nearby Mount Orford, home to the Station de Ski du Mount Orford. Hike, cycle or ski along the trails amid the forests and lakes of the stunning Parc National du Mont-Orford.

The improvements on the Main Street sidewalks make walking and shopping and visiting restaurants much safer and more convenient. But there is a real loss of the individual character of the town which The side streets trees and architecture retain
