Travel Guide
Ortisei showing a small town or village
Traditional folk culture brightens this charming northern Italian village, where the regal Dolomites crown a range of alpine ski mountains.

Ortisei is a charming village in the Val Gardena region, where South Tyrolean heritage has been instilled into the majestic alpine landscape and towering Dolomites. Discover an expansive ski area with beautifully groomed slopes and modern facilities amid the rich traditions of northern Italy.

Explore a world-class selection of ski slopes above Ortisei, including the wide Val Gardena ski area, the rolling trails that extend from the Dolomiti Superski Dolomite Alps ski resort, the Alpe di Siusi and the exciting Sella Ronda circuit. Pick up your rental gear or purchase new equipment from the Ortisei ski shops. Start on the easy novice slopes or take on the wide-ranging intermediate descents. Book lessons or join a guided tour to enhance your experience of a variety of groomed runs and off-piste trails, connected by more than 80 ski lifts. Admire the beautiful scenery and the dramatic Dolomites piercing the winter sky.

Enjoy fun-filled freestyle ski areas and terrain parks. Several jumps, kickers, boxes and rails offer endless fun for skiers and boarders. You can also take freestyle lessons at the Val Gardena parks. Enjoy a leisurely ride on the area’s longest run, a 6.5-mile (10.5 kilometer) trail that connects the mountain station of Seceda to Ortisei below.

After a day on the slopes, have a warming drink and traditional meal at après-ski pubs and restaurants. Authentic South-Tyrolean woodcarvings adorn the chalets and huts. Stay in one of Ortisei’s traditional farmhouses or modern hotels, complete with luxurious après-ski baths, wellness treatments, childcare services and kids’ activities. Reach the slopes above Ortisei via the convenient Val Gardena base village ski bus.

Ortisei is located in northern Italy, a 45-minute drive from Dolomiti Airport in Bolzano and 35 minutes from the nearest train station at Bressanone/Brixen. A local bus service connects Ortisei to these surrounding villages. The ski season runs from December to April. When you’re not skiing, learn about Ortisei’s folk culture at the Museum Gherdëina or enjoy the local pool and sauna.

"Absolutely amazing hotel. Food is excellent. I usual don’t eat dinner at hotels, but the dinners were excellent, as was breakfast. Sauna and hot tubs were perfect for days after a hike. Staff was great. Was one of the best all around hotels I’ve stayed at and I’ve stayed at some of the best."

"Enjoyed this property, even with a 0.75 mile walk to get there from where the bus dropped us off, not a problem and it was near enough to restaurants, plus they serve dinner. Staff were very friendly, and they gave us Sud Triol bus passes that got us free rides in the area for 7 days, very nice!"
