Always try to rent a car if you are planning on exploring outside of San Diego city center. In terms of weather, any time of year will be fairly pleasant in San Diego. The hottest months are August and September, with average high temperatures of around 76 F (24 C). Visit in October for slightly cooler temperatures that will still allow you to enjoy the beautiful beaches. Note that the coolest months are December through March, when highs average 65 F (18 C) and you will need a jacket in the evenings.
