Songde Park lies along the western ridge of Jiufen, providing stunning views of the town’s historic buildings and sweeping, green hills. Prepare snacks and drinks for a picnic amid the shrubs and hedges of this peaceful setting. Climb the steps leading from the town center up to the hilltop park. At the top of the steps stands the park’s namesake Songde Monument, which pays tribute to the founder of the Tauyang Gold Mine Office. Relax on one of the stone benches and read a book or watch people go by.
Embark on a pleasant stroll with your family along the stone slate paths meandering through the grounds. Decorating the route are several impressive sculptures. Inspect the works of art and stand at the top of the hill for an excellent view of the towns of Jiufen and Daganlin.
Begin walking along the Xiaocukeng hiking trail that continues to Houdong. You’ll soon reach a pavilion offering a view of the Yin Yang Sea. Notice the variety of plants and animals along the sides of the trail.
The park can be fairly crowded on weekend afternoons. Arrive at sunrise during the week to enjoy the park in its most serene state.
Songde Park is located in the Ruifang District that marks the eastern edge of Keelung City. It stands on the western side of central Jiufen, between the Houtong Cat Village and the Golden Waterfall. Drive east from the center of Keelung City for about 9 miles (14 kilometers) to get here in roughly 30 minutes.
